Alice in Wonderland VR

Our team was presented with a unique opportunity when the West Australian Museum approached us to develop a captivating VR experience centered around Lewis Carroll's beloved tale, Alice in Wonderland. This immersive VR experience was designed to be a highlight of the centennial exhibit honoring Carroll's work. As the team lead, I had the privilege of overseeing a talented group of game designers, animators, designers, audio technicians, and 3D modelers. Together, we collaborated closely to bring the magical world of Alice in Wonderland to life in a truly engaging and unforgettable virtual reality experience.

The Brief & Deliverables

Our primary objective was to create a VR experience that captured the whimsical and eccentric essence of Alice in Wonderland. With a four-month timeline leading up to the exhibit, we had to meticulously plan and execute our vision. Our goal was to deliver an immersive and enjoyable VR experience for the public to engage with during the exhibit. To achieve this, our team worked tirelessly to craft captivating environments, develop interactive gameplay mechanics, and ensure a seamless and memorable virtual reality journey through the fantastical world of Alice in Wonderland.

Project Lead

As the project lead, I had the privilege of overseeing a talented team of over a dozen students with diverse expertise in game design, audio, animations, design, and 3D art. I took on the responsibility of structuring the game designers, ensuring a cohesive and consistent theme throughout the experience. To achieve this, I utilized management tools and a git repository to facilitate collaboration and maintain version control.

I also played a crucial role in coordinating with the audio, animations, design, and 3D artist students, holding regular meetings to provide guidance, establish project deadlines, and outline milestones. By leveraging management tools and timeline charts, I ensured that our project progressed smoothly and met our exhibition timeline.

In addition, I served as the liaison between our team, the unit coordinator, and the museum contact. I actively participated in meetings and showcases, guaranteeing effective communication and alignment with project requirements. I also took charge of securing the necessary equipment and facilities to ensure a successful exhibition of our VR experience.

Hurdles

Developing a client-based VR experience while simultaneously working on another major project presented its challenges. As the project lead, my primary hurdle was managing the team's progress and ensuring the completion of this ambitious endeavor. I had to balance the demands and commitments of team members, ensuring that everyone remained consistent in their contributions and that the project progressed steadily towards its completion.

To overcome this hurdle, I adopted effective communication strategies and implemented regular check-ins with team members. By fostering an environment of open communication and setting clear expectations, I was able to motivate and guide the team towards meeting project milestones. Additionally, I employed efficient project management techniques to track progress and address any potential roadblocks promptly.
